ABOUT
Miles For Michelle was created in memory of Michelle Reeder. Miles For Michelle is a registered 501c3 non profit, with 100% of ALL PROCEEDS RAISED going to research and to improve diagnosis and treatment.
Michelle had a rare form of cancer called Hemangiopericytoma, or "solitary fibrous tumor". She was diagnosed in April of 2011, starting with a tumor in the lining of her brain and over the years it spread throughout her body to her spine, pelvis and then to her organs. Sarcoma's are difficult types of cancer to treat because they are rare. There isn't a lot of funding and therefore not a lot of research and what research they do have is underfunded.
Michelle never had a specific treatment developed exactly for her case. Many treatments were developed for other types of cancer and it was a guessing game what would work and what wouldn't, causing patients like Michelle, to be on the front lines of trial and error. She fought like a warrior through various forms of chemo and radiation, but never wanted to be "defined by cancer". She never wanted people to think of her differently or see her differently.
We hope to help people who are diagnosed with this form of cancer so they can have better options than Michelle did.
